Elsa, Isobel and Yuliana lived in Indonesia before settling in Australia. Through their regular prayer group, they often discussed the possibility of helping disadvantaged people in Indonesia. Although a large number of charitable organisations are already present in Indonesia, small villages are often 'neglected' by these organisations as well as the government because of the villages’ remoteness. They began their quest by searching for reliable local Indonesian contacts to gather more information.
They met their first contact, Sister Lita Lacaden, through their involvement with the Indonesian Charismatic Prayer Group.
Sister Lita is a Canossian Sister from Indonesia who has recently completed her study in Social Science at the Australian Catholic University at Banyo. They learnt from her that many Canossian Sisters are teaching in schools and operating medical centres in a number of very remote areas of Indonesia.
Sister Lita introduced them to her mother superior, Mother Iolanda. Mother Iolanda Vezzoli is the mother superior of the Canossian Sisters in Jakarta. After many conversations via emails, Elsa, Isobel and Yuliana have found the local contacts they have been searching for in Mother Iolanda and the Canossian Sisters.
They learnt from Mother Iolanda that at present the Canossian Sisters are in real need of some support to build a kindergarten in Tofa, a small village near Kupang, in West Timor. The Sisters would like to build a school and they would like to start with a kindergarten. The school will cater for everyone, irrespective of status, race or religion.
Joy and Hope (J & H) Society wish to seek support to help the Canossian sisters with their project at Tofa. It hopes to assist with the construction of the kindergarten.
The education and especially the ethical guidance provided by the Sisters to the village children will benefit the entire community in Tofa and surrounding villages.
- Joy and Hope Society is run by volunteers.
- There will be no expenses except bank charges for the transfer of money, some stationery and postage.

Help us to assist the Canossian Sisters – who so generously dedicate their lives to work among God’s children, often in very tough conditions.
Converted to Indonesian rupiahs, our Australian dollars is substantial. One Australian dollar is approximately 8,200 Indonesian rupiahs. Thus even our 'loose change' can be a meaningful donation.
